Mixing Face Products to Achieve the Perfect Finish

Author: Sammy Skrzekut

Ever wondered why your makeup starts to look patchy throughout the day? You could possibly be mixing water-based and silicone-based makeup!

Mixing these two can cause pilling and separation of your products. To ensure that your foundation, concealer, bronzer, and blush stay put all day, make sure that you are checking that your products are compatible.

One way to do this is to review the ingredients of your products. If a product contains an ingredient ending in "cone" or "siloxane", it is likely a silicon-based product. If you don't see those endings, it is safe to assume you have a water-based product.

If you are looking to achieve a natural and breathable finish, you should look into finding water-based face products. Since water-based products are free of oils, they don't clog the pores and are suitable for acne-prone or sensitive skin.

On the other hand, if a blurred and long-lasting look is what you are searching for, silicone-based products are your best bet. Acting as a barrier against moisture, silicone-based products leave the skin flawless for hours. Silicone-based products tend to be buildable and leave a matte finish, perfect for controlling shine and long events.

Both water-based and silicone-based face products can create beautiful finishes on the skin, but the key to achieving a smooth and flawless application is to avoid mixing these two types of products. Each formulation offers its own unique benefits, so it's best to choose one based on which look you desire to create.

Makeup for Different Skin Types and Tones

Author: Shylah Hernandez

When it comes to makeup, skin texture matters just as much as skin type. Whether you have large pores, fine lines, acne scars, rough patches applying makeup can sometimes feel like a frustrating task. We have all been there, but there is good news, with the right techniques and products, anyone can achieve a smooth, glowing complexion.

I will walk you though makeup tips and tricks tailored to different skin textures, from minimizing large pores to softening fine lines. No matter your skin's unique characteristics, there is a way to work with your texture instead of against it.

 1. LARGE PORES
People with large pores often struggle with foundation settling into a pores, making them appear more visible. Often, the goal is to minimize the appearance of pores and create a smooth surface.

TIPS:
- Use a Pre-Filling Primer: Look for silicone-based primers that blur pores (e.g., Maybelline Baby Skin Primer, Benefit Porefessional Dupe).
- Applying Foundation with a Sponge: Using a damp beauty blender evenly disperses products, helping to prevent foundation from settling in pores.
- Opt for Light-to-Medium Coverage: Full coverage foundations tend to enhance the appearance of pores.
- Use Powders Sparingly: Avoid heavy powders that emphasize pores; instead try translucent powders.

2. TEXTURED SIN (BUMPS OR ACNE)
Textured skin can include bumps, scars, or rough patches from acne. The challenge is to even out the texture while avoiding a heavy, cakey appearance.

TIPS:
Exfoliate and Moisturize Before Makeup: Prepping the skin helps reduce dry patches and bumps.
-Use a Buildable Foundation: Light layers of foundation create a smoother finish (e.g., L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Glow).
-Stick to Cream Products: Cream blushes and bronzers blend more seamlessly than powders on textured skin.
-Apply Primer with a Tapping Motion: Avoid rubbing, as it can highlight bumps. Tapping helps the primer fill in uneven areas.
-Avoid Shimmery Products: Stick with satin or matte finishes, as shimmer can draw attention to texture.

3. MAKEUP FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TONES
People with different skin tones (fair, medium, deep) face challenges finding products that complement their undertones. This section helps them navigate product selection for undertones (cool, warm, neutral) and complexions.

TIPS:
Fair Skin
- Recommended light foundation and blushes that don't look too overpowering (like peach tones)
- Avoid products that turn ashy or orange

Medium Skin
- Bronze and golden tones tend to look flattering
- Highlight brands that cater well to medium skin tones

Dark skin
- Rich jewel tones, or berry red, burgundy, chocolate, and deep plump shades give the skin a stunning pop
- For blush, you want to make sure you are looking for a warm peach, deep rose, berry, or terracotta shades

My Daily Budget-Friendly Makeup Routine

Author: Makayla Martinez

Here are my daily essentials for a full face of inexpensive, yet high quality beauty products that help me paint my face every morning. Personally, I have very sensitive skin that is very picky with what goes on it and I'm also always on a budget. Because of this, I have researched varieties of dupes, and general products that help my face go from bad to fab.

FIRST BASE LAYER
To begin my everyday makeup routine, I start with a light layer of the e.l.f. Cosmetics - Suntouchable invisible Sunscreen SPF 35 and rub it all over my face. I put sunscreen on every single day regardless of the weather, I believe it's very important for your skin because the sun never truly goes away...

Second thing that goes on my base layer is concealer. I usually have a few problem spots that get covered with my NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Hydrating Concealer, perfect for my sensitive skin.

SECOND BASE LAYER
After getting my base layer done, I begin to add some color to my face to make me look alive. First, I add some bronzer (a must have to make people think you go outside). My favorite that I use daily is the ColourPop - Shell Beach Bronze Stick, which is actually a dupe for the Makeup By Mario Contour Stick.

Now that the color is slowly coming back to my face, I add the most crucial part (in my opinion) to any makeup routine: blush. I use the NYX Buttermelt Pressed Powder Blush, which is a dupe for the Dior Blush.

To really set everything I've done above, I spray the e.l.f. Cosmetics Stay All Night Setting Spray, which genuinely does last all day and night.

FIRST EYE LAYER
Once the overall base layer of my face is done, I curl my eyelashes with the e.l.f. Cosmetics Pro Eyelash Curler.

Now that my eyelashes are nice and curled, my Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes Waterproof Mascara comes in to finish the job. My eyelashes are usually stick straight and can never keep a curl. Then I discovered the Maybelline mascara; now my eyelashes stay up all day and night.

That concludes my very simple, and affordable face routine. If you have very sensitive skin and no money in your bank like I do, this routine is perfect for you!

Love a Matte Base but Struggle with Under Eye Creasing?

Author: Paola Sanchez

Do you struggle with under eye creasing? First of all, it is important to note that creasing is bound to happen, but there are a couple tricks I do to prevent excessive creasing. The first step to a smooth base is a good, hydrating skin care routine and a good primer that will work best with your skin type.

After applying any face makeup (foundation, liquid contour, liquid blush, etc.) you will want to place your concealer in your desired spots and begin to blend. I recommend placing all of your liquid products before you get to concealer as you will be setting your under eyes immediately after you blend.

TIPS:
My first tip is to use a small brush to get as close to your waterline, then use a beauty blender to buff out and seamlessly blend the rest into your face. This will give a more full coverage look and waste less product.
Immediately after, you will want to use a powder puff and pressed powder to quickly and lightly set the concealer before it creases. My favorite pressed powder is Maybelline Fit Me matte and Poreless Powder
Continue by applying any powdered makeup (bronzer, blush, etc.) and then comes the fun part, BAKING. Use a loose powder, my favorite affordable powder is Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder
- Use a powder puff to apply loose powder, but do not forget to gently rub the puff in a circular motion on the back of your hand to work the powder into the puff before applying. This will ensure the most seamless application and will limit heavy under eye creasing and caking!

Remember that this is a good tip for my full coverage and matte base lovers!
